The regeneration of the Rhodes Peninsula is a State Government initiative to urbanise obsolete industrial lands on the shores of the Parramatta River adjacent to the Homebush Olympic Park. The Master Plan provides for the development of an innovative, environmentally sensitive, high quality medium density residential neighbourhood with extensive river views and parklands.

The suburb of Rhodes will benefit from the extensive additional parklands and community facilities proposed within this phase of the peninsula redevelopment. It is intended that there be a seamless merging of the existing and new residential areas of Rhodes.

The Master Plan is based around the following architectural and spatial principles. Significant foreshore open space area is linked to adjacent parklands, other public domain areas and public activity nodes. A refined street layout maximises views to the water, from within the precinct and from areas adjacent, as well as achieving high quality solar access to the proposed dwellings. Real variety in building forms and siting with a strong emphasis on orienting dwellings into usable public and private open space areas and streets. Building forms define the public domain.
